1. An Open Mind
For most people, having an online business and earning money on the internet is a whole new experience. Most of us have been conditioned our entire lives to believe that success comes only to those who “go to school, get good grades, and get a good job.”
Well, this is definitely not the case.
Look at what is going on in our economy. People are getting laid off left and right, others are losing their retirement money right before their eyes and still others are being foreclosed on because they can’t pay their mortgage.
The crazy thing is that most of these people are people who did exactly what I stated above!
They got good grades, went to college and got a “good” job. Then, why aren’t they successful? Why are they struggling to pay their mortgage?
Let me tell you why.
Things have changed. The old paradigm doesn’t work anymore and we, as a society haven’t realized that fact yet. Now, I’m not saying that getting good grades, going to college and getting a good job is bad. I’m just saying that it isn’t the only “formula for success” as many would like us to believe.
When Chad and I first started our business, our family and friends thought we were crazy. We constantly got questions like “The economy is bad, are you sure this is a good idea?”
Yes it’s a good idea, because we would rather invest in ourselves and be in control of our future than spend our days depending on someone else to provide for us and our family.
This is why you must have an open mind. There are some amazing things you can do with your online business and it will provide you with so much freedom, but you must be willing to let go of some of the old, conditioned beliefs that we have all had at one point in our lives.
If you don’t let go of those old beliefs, what is possible online will seem impossible to you. If something seems impossible to you, well then it may as well be, because our minds are very powerful – more so than we usually realize.
What we believe in our lives becomes our reality…but that’s a topic for another day!
2. A Willingness To Learn
Becoming a successful marketer on the internet is going to require that you learn how to market, from the fundamentals to the advanced techniques and everything in between. These are skills that you may not possess at this time, but if you are willing to learn and put the time in, they will be skills you will never be able to put a price tag on.
Earning money on the internet is like anything else new that you do in life. Remember the first time you picked up a basketball. More than likely, you weren’t an all-star the first time you played, but after practicing and sticking with it, I bet you were a great player.
The same applies here and to almost anything else in life. It doesn’t matter if it was basketball for you, soccer, baseball, a musical instrument or whatever…the concept is still the same.
Learn the fundamentals, practice and implement and you will be successful. There are no short cuts here!
3. Drive & Determination
Before you can begin to earn money on the internet, you must be committed and willing to do whatever it takes to be successful. There are going to be bumps in the road, I’m sure, just like anything new in life.
However, if you have the drive and determination to be successful, you will stick with it and get through some of the ups and downs so that you can have the type of success you are looking for.
If you are not determined to be successful and willing to do whatever it takes, then the first road block you hit might be enough to send you back to your “comfortable” paycheck and then things will just go back to being status quo…which is okay if that’s what you really want out of your life, but is it?
4. Leadership & Training
This one is huge. Let’s say you wanted to become an electrician. Would you go around just changing light fixtures and messing around with fuse boxes when you have no idea what you are doing?
I hope not.
You would go through the proper training and then probably become an apprentice to another electrician.
This is how we learn. We find a good mentor who can provide us with the right training. Someone who is genuinely interested in our well-being. Someone who understands our goals and wants to help us reach them.
Don’t sell yourself short on this one.
Do your due diligence and find someone who you can work with and who is willing to work with you. Find someone who is willing to provide you with the right training platform so you can shave years off your learning curve.
There are no short cuts in this business, but getting the proper training can save you a lot of headaches in the long run so do your homework!
